Bedroomies - Episode 9
by Chris Marie Green
Jenna slowly walks down the sidewalk to her building, carrying a bag from the market.
Expertly texting with one hand, she sends out a message to Heather.
Happy weekend.
VERY happy. I just met a guy at the coffeehouse!
šŸ‘
Am I rubbing salt in your wound?
No. It’s not your fault that two weeks have gone by and I haven’t called Adam and he hasn’t called me.
I still don’t have the guts to do it, and it looks like he’s really done with me.
I can’t believe he hasn’t said another word about it.
Jenna slumps into her building and takes the elevator.
Totally my fault. But let’s talk happy things. What’s up with this mystery man of yours?
He’s coming back with coffee now. Text you later with the deets?
Please do. Fingers and toes crossed for you, baby.
šŸ˜‰
Jenna swallows hard as she walks down the hall then enters her place.
She sets down her bag filled with ingredients for the loneliest dinner imaginable.
With her phone in hand, she wanders to the door of Adam’s old bedroom.
To call or not to call? That’s always the question…
I decided to come here so you couldn’t hang up on me this time.
She drops her phone and whirls around toward his voice.
Adam is on the sofa, his brown hair tussled, his green eyes intense as he holds up some keys.
He’s wearing faded jeans and a Han Solo tee shirt that clings to his every muscle.
Adam?
You don’t have to say anything.
Not when the look on your face already says it all.
He stands and tosses the keys onto the sofa.
You’ve got this expression that tells me you’ve missed me as much as I’ve missed you.
One that says you remember what we were to each other before this whole tie incident.
Don’t look away from me, Jen. Can you tell me why you shut down on me like that?
I don’t want you to…
Think the worst of you?
Why would I do that when we’ve only gotten started?
Shocked, she locks gazes with him. There’s a fire in his eyes that sears her.
Her vision starts to blur.
Oh, shit. Don’t cry.
I’m trying not to.
But it’s hard to believe that you don’t care that I kept mementos of you in my closet.
And that I used a specific memento in some…very interesting ways.
I even took selfies of all those ways.
You sure did.
Go ahead. Tell me I’m a weirdo.
Doesn’t knowing that I used your tie that way make you squirm?
He shakes his head and, grinning, begins to slowly walk toward her.
Jenna’s pulse trembles.
Now that you know I’m not the innocent nerd you always fantasized about…
Do you really still want me?
He keeps closing the distance between them.
Defense mechanisms.
What?
You’re still throwing a ton of excuses at me.
Adam…
He’s so close that she has to lift her face to look up into his heated gaze.
You don’t have to do this. That wall you’re building doesn’t have to be real.
I’M real, Jen.
His voice is a ragged whisper.
Jesus, do you know how special and sexy you are to me?
And it’s because of the things that make you different from everyone else, like your brains. Your heart.
Your mementos.
So you…don’t think I’m weird?
Hell no.
I might’ve been attracted to your shyness and nerdiness at first…
But your kinks are what really get me.
I just wish you were more comfortable with me so you wouldn’t be skittish any longer.
He thumbs away a tear from her cheek as an emotional ache twists in her chest.
Just the thought of never seeing you again kills me.
Especially over something that I absolutely accept about you.
Can I cry — now?
Why would you want to do that?
She grips his tee shirt, pulling him a little closer.
Because I never thought I’d hear anyone say these things to me.
She slips her hands around his waist, hardly believing she’s touching Adam.
He cups her face in his hands.
There’s another thing I came here to say.
What?
I love you, Jenna. Every part of you.
Including the things I’ll discover about you from now on.
Oh, Adam.
I love you, too. Always have, always will.
He pulls her to him for a breath-stealing kiss.
It’s intimate…hot…long…
And promises many more fantasies.
He keeps holding her so close that she can feel his heartbeat.
Now for the question of the decade…
Mmm?
What other toys do you have in that closet of yours?
